Neither Objective nor Human, yet Both

DATA

Title of Work: Neither Objective nor Human, Yet Both

2013, 36 x 30 inches, Acrylic on Canvas, Series Name: Language

CONTEXT

“What happens when we feel like our entire world has been uprooted?”

“I’m sure an event of extreme significance, perhaps tragedy, can make one feel this way but the event and the feeling are mutually exclusive i.e. We don’t need an external event to feel that our “world has been uprooted”. For example, a random unpleasant thought can very well make us feel that way too.”

“What role does language and meaning have to play when this happens?”

“Can we use language and meaning to distort, amplify or diminish our feelings so as to as to best match the external reality? “

“Is there a desire to match reality in the first place?“
